FUN FUNCTION: 3 technical steps and functional diagnosis

Dr. Francesca Vailati

Loved, criticized, debated, followed, extremely copied, decidedly UNIQUE, the 3STEP was created for the complete aesthetic and functional rehabilitation treatment of mouths affected by dental erosion, basing its essence on the principles of adhesion accompanied by a new vision of the vertical dimension of occlusion.

Today, however, it becomes an approach, a vision, a diagnostic method. It becomes a set of new prosthetic terms, a philosophy of thought.
This aspect truly makes it a unique, clear, repeatable and usable procedure for all forms of prosthetic treatment, from conservative rehabilitations to extensive implant-supported reconstructions.

A definitely different way of making prostheses, which does not reject or deny the teachings of the great schools of classical gnathology and does not oppose traditional prosthesis solutions, but rather at the service of the latter by offering an alternative or complementary possibility to conventional treatment.

The aim of this report is to present the "world" behind the choice of the 3 STEP approach, i.e. the DIAGNOSIS, the PROJECT and the 3STEP TEST DRIVE.
09:00 – 10:30
WHAT IT IS AND WHY EVERYONE NEEDS ADDITIVE PROSTHESIS
11:30 - 13:00
THE 3STEP DIAGNOSIS: IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE ORIGINAL (THE TOOTH)
HAS BROKEN, ANY REPAIR (THE RESTORATION) WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS.
14:00 - 16:00
THE 3STEP PROJECT: THE ESSENTIAL ROLE OF THE DENTAL TECHNICIAN BECAUSE ONLY TEAM WORK CAN WORK IN THE REHABILITATION OF DYSFUNCTIONAL PEOPLE.
16:30 - 17:30
THE 3STEP TEST DRIVE: THE BEST ARTICULATOR IS THE PATIENT'S MOUTH, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE AN ARTICULATOR... YOU WILL GO CRAZY IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!

AIOP, Our History

Milan, April 7, 1979: the Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry was born by the founding members Adriano Bracchetti, Sergio De Paoli, Gianfranco Di Febo, Francesco Lo Bianco, Vittorio Milani, Pietro Minchiotti, Franco Mongini, Emilio Rastelli, Sergio Zecchin and, by proxy from the United States, Frank V. Celenza.
Vittorio Milani and Sergio De Paoli are respectively appointed President and Vice President of the Board of Directors.
Among the most important statutory purposes, the Academy promised itself the dissemination and dissemination of prosthetic scientific knowledge to an ever-increasing number of colleagues, going to fill an important void on the national scene: clinical training and culture in the field of prosthetics.

A highly innovative element for the time was the opening of the company to dental technicians with an equal role, adding to the medical section also a dental technician section, represented by two dental technician members elected to the Executive Board.
Bologna, 29-30 October 1982:the 1st International Congress dedicated entirely to prostheses was held, in which Arthur Lewin, Frank V. Celenza, Jan Lindhe, Gerard Kramer, Ronald Odrich, Gerd Henning and Willi Geller participated as speakers, among others.

More than 500 doctors and dental technicians registered for the congress sessions and many of them became members of the Academy.
The event was a great success, and stood out for the quality, seriousness, scientific nature and independence that still characterize AIOP events today.

Since then AIOP has offered Italian dental professionals and dental technicians as many as 41 international congresses, whose headquarters have traditionally remained in the city of Bologna, and almost 200 national courses and conferences.

TODAY

The Academy is made up of Active Members, who manage the Academy, and some hundreds of Ordinary, Young and Honorary Members, establishing itself as one of the major scientific societies on the international scene.

With its constant commitment to scientific dissemination and the sharing of knowledge among professionals, AIOP has contributed to the development of Italian prosthetic dentistry, which today includes numerous professionals, both clinicians and dental technicians, who are now considered opinion leaders worldwide.
