NOTICE OF COMPETITION

INTERNATIONAL AWARD "ROBERTO POLCAN"
FOR THE BEST DENTAL TECHNICIANS CONTRIBUTION
AN ITALIAN AWARD FOR THE INTERNATIONAL ODONTOTECHNICS

Who was Roberto Polcan?
He was one of the first dental technicians to become Active Member of AIOP and Director of the odontotechnical section for the biennium 97/98, Roberto did not complete his mandate, he suddenly passed away at the age of 50.
Roberto Polcan has left a great void within the Academy. For his colleagues and students indeed, not only was he an excellent master of odontotechnics with high professionalism, he also was a man of large human lead. AIOP therefore remembers him every year on the occasion of the International Congress leading a competition to reward technicians who provide the best prosthetic reconstruction.

1. The Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry (AIOP) based in Italy, in Bologna, Piazza di Porta Mascarella 7 establishes an international award named after the Cdt. Roberto Polcan for an amount of € 3,000.00 (three thousand). This award is open to citizens of all nationalities graduated in odontotechnics.

2. The announcement of competition is on the submission of an odontechnical work of particular interest for innovation or qualitative excellence. The documentation shall be submitted according to the following scheme: 
• a written report with the case presentation, the prosthetic treatment plan formulated by the dentist with observations relating to the materials used, the technical phases of processing, the occlusal scheme developed and the considerations on the completed case;
• a PowerPoint or keynote presentation of, at most, 60 images in 20 slides illustrating: the initial presentation of the case with clinical pictures, if provided by the dentist (not mandatory) and the study cast models; working models (master) mounted in the articulator; diagnostic wax-up, if performed, the final wax-up with pictures of interocclusal relationships; the completed frameworks showing the accuracy of the margins and other significant details; the finalized case with pictures showing the congruence of the occlusion and, if provided by the dentist, final clinical picture.

3. The documentation for the case presentation (point 2 and 4) should reach the Secretariat AIOP (PLS Educational Srl - Via della Mattonaia, 17 - 50121 Firenze, Italy; tel. +39 055 2462228). The documentation can also be sent by email or wetransfer to the address aiop@promoleader.com no later than October 23, 2017.

4. The candidate must provide the secretariat AIOP the following information:
• last name, first name, date and place of birth, address;
• title of study, date and location of achievement;
• address, email address and telephone number to which all the communications relating to the competition shall be sent;
• a curriculum vitae and any titles of scientific order;
• a statement to have not received other awards with the same presentation.

5. The documentation of the case will be evaluated and judged by a jury that has the right to convene the candidate for an interview, if deemed necessary. The jury will make a ranking indicating suitable candidates in order of merit. The final decision of the jury is unappealable.

6. Within the peremptory time limit of ten days from the receipt of the e-mail communicating the formal notice of the award, the assignee must declare to the Secretariat AIOP – under penalty of invalidation - to accept, unreservedly, the award itself under the conditions of the notice of competition.

7. The prize will be awarded to the winner by the Chairperson of the AIOP Odontotechnical Section on the occasion of the International Congress AIOP which will be held in Bologna on November 17-18, 2017. The assignee is required to attend the award ceremony in Bologna c/o the conference center Palazzo dei Congressi, under penalty of revocation of the award. The award winning documentation will be published in the journals “Il Nuovo Laboratorio Odontotecnico” and “Quintessenza Odontotecnica”.

8. This award does not give rise to social security treatments and does not integrate a working collaboration. It is subjected to legal tax regime.
