Dott. Konrad Meyenberg

Konrad H. Meyenberg was born 1959 in Aarau, Switzerland.
He graduated at the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 1985. After having worked in a private office from 1985 to 1988, he completed from 1988 to 1992 his 4-year post-graduate program in reconstructive dentistry in Zurich at the department for fixed and remouvable prosthodontics and material sciences (chairman: Prof. Peter Schärer). His special areas of interests and research are aesthetics, implant dentistry, adhesive dentistry and perioprosthetics.
He maintains from 1992 on a private practice limited to esthetic reconstructive dentistry in Zurich, Switzerland, together with 2 partners (Dr. Marco Imoberdorf: periodontology & implant surgery, Dr. Peter Velvart: microsurgery & endodontics). He is a senior lecturer for reconstructive dentistry at the Universitis of Zurich and Berne, Dental Schools. He is since 1990 a well-known speaker at numerous international congresses. He published numerous articles in the fields of esthetic dentistry, perio-prosthodontics and implant prosthodontics.
He is an active Member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) and the Swiss Society of Reconstructive Dentistry (SSRD).
He is a certified specialist for Reconstructive Dentistry of the Swiss and European Dental Society (specialty degree since 1993). Member of the editorial board and reviewer of the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and the Journal of Implantologie.

ABSTRACT
Single and multiple tooth replacement in the aesthetic zone: implants versus fixed bridges

  1. Part: When to keep and when to extract: clinical rules and guidelines
  2. Part: Implant & tooth supported fixed restorations: design, materials, techniques and aesthetics

The periodontally & structurally compromised anterior dentition is a special challenge.
Beside functional and biologic aspects, technical and aesthetical problems provoke the search for unconventional solutions. Since soft tissue defects often cannot be predictably restituted ad integrum, they must be compensated by smart prosthesis designs.
Restorative, technical, aesthetical and biological aspects of these complex cases are therefore discussed under the key-words "predictability and excellence".
Numerous clinical cases are presented to compare the esthetic and functional outcome of implant- and tooth-supported fixed restorations with and without pontics.

The following topics will be adressed:

  • when to extract and when to keep a tooth in the aesthetic zone: aesthetic and biological considerations, definition of some clinical guidelines
  • the predictability of the soft tissue profile in periodontally compromised cases
  • do new implant designs reduce the challenge of the soft tissue aesthetics?
  • perfect pink aesthetics: tissue or porcelain?
  • clinical use of all-ceramic 2-unit adhesive bridges to compensate for single missing teeth

Odt. Nicola Pietrobon

On completion of his professional training in Zürich in 1985, Nicola Pietrobon worked in various laboratories as a dental technician.
Between 1988 and 1990 he attended continuing education courses in Advanced Dental-Technology at the University of Zürich, Switzerland under the guidance of Prof. P. Schärer M.S.
Between 1990 and 1993, he worked at the private clinic of Prof. Dr. K. Malament and Prof. Dr. D. Nathanson, in Boston, MA, USA.
In 1991 Nicola Pietrobon received the “Young Speaker of the Year Award” of the International Society for Dental Ceramics (ISDC), New Orleans, LA, USA.
Between 1993 and 2000, he worked as the head of the Dental Technology Laboratory, Department of Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Materials, at the University of Zürich (Director Prof. Dr. P. Schärer, after September 2000, Prof. Dr. Ch. Hämmerle).
In 1998 he joined forces with Reto Michel to open a private dental laboratory in the heart of Zürich, becoming fully established there in the spring of 2001; the laboratory specialises in aesthetic dentistry and implantological restorations.
Nicola Pietrobon is an active member of the “European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry”, Associate Editor of the “Official Journal of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry” and a member of the editorial staff of “Quintessenz der Zahntechnik”. He is an internationally renowned and appreciated author and presenter in the fields of aesthetic prosthodontics, dental teamwork and oral implantology.

ABSTRACT
A variety of highly aesthetic materials such as pressed ceramics and zirconia have been introduced to dentistry in recent years. As a consequence, both the clinical and technical procedures had to be adapted for a good long term result. New treatment standards have evolved for all the different esthetic materials redefining indications of their use.
Techniques may appear simple, but in reality they can be extremely technique sensitive. An inter-disciplinary approach, sound knowledge and awareness of new materials are essential if we are to strive optimal function and aesthetic harmony with long term predictability.
Collaboration between dentistry and dental technology is necessary in order to design the optimal prosthesis, and to minimize potential risks during its creation.
This presentations will discuss the individual aspects of this collaboration based on a variety of tooth-supported and implant-supported restorations.
